Effective Solutions for Postpartum Hair Loss

After pregnancy and childbirth, the body takes about a year to return to its original state. One of the normal yet not so pleasant occurrences is hair loss, which can happen at any time after giving birth. However, it may go unnoticed or not occur at all. It’s also possible for hair loss to occur after one pregnancy but not after another.

Hair loss is not a dangerous condition but a common phenomenon that cannot be completely prevented or stopped.

Don’t worry; it will cease quite soon. Even if you do nothing, the hair loss will eventually stop on its own.

However, we agree that it’s uncomfortable to experience such a situation and watch your hair fall out daily. Below, you’ll find our list of tips and treatments to promote hair regrowth after pregnancy:

1. For Washing Hair – Mild Shampoo.

There are very mild shampoos on the market specifically designed to stimulate the growth of new hair. Additionally, some hair growth shampoos are garlic-based, so if you plan to go somewhere, pay attention to the scent of the shampoo when purchasing.

During this time, refrain from dyeing your hair, using strong treatments, harsh shampoos, hair masks, and other products. If you can’t find a suitable shampoo, you can easily make one by mixing readily available ingredients. A combination of nettle shampoo, castor oil, AD drops, and panthenol solution in specific ratios is definitely one of the best things you can provide for your hair and scalp.

The correct ratio for nettle shampoo for hair growth:

1 bottle of AD drops solution
100 ml of panthenol solution
50 ml of castor oil
750 ml of nettle shampoo
1 bottle of nettle drops (30 ml)

2. After Washing Hair – Hair Growth Spray

To promote hair growth, you can purchase a spray specifically designed for hair growth, which is applied after washing your hair and rubbed directly into the scalp.

=> We recommend getting a panthenol solution from the pharmacy and putting it in a spray bottle. If you want the spray to contain additional ingredients, you can find manufactured variants specifically for stimulating hair growth.

3. Before Washing Hair – Hair Growth Serums

There are also various serums that can be directly applied to the hair roots. They are generally oilier and heavier, so they are recommended for application before washing your hair.

=> If you prefer a DIY option, feel free to apply extra virgin coconut oil to your scalp and rub it in with circular motions.

4. Scalp Massage – Daily

Gently massage your scalp with your fingers in circular motions every day to stimulate new hair growth. You can now find special rubber massagers in stores, which are generally used with hair serums.

5. Collagen, Omega Complex, Prenatal Vitamins

The intake of collagen from packets orally is becoming increasingly popular due to its numerous benefits.

Consult your pediatrician if you are breastfeeding.

Using an omega complex can also contribute to healthier skin, hair, and nails.

Continue the supplements and vitamin complexes you were taking during pregnancy for some time after childbirth.

Supplements cannot replace a healthy food and hydration.

6. Rinsing Hair with Beer

pivo

Rinsing your hair with beer after washing is something that has been known for ages as one of the best things you can do for your hair. The smell of beer dissipates quickly, while the B-vitamin complex found in beer remains on the scalp, nourishing it and promoting hair growth until the next wash.

7. Scalp Detox with Clay

DIY CLAY MASK

You can use a clay shampoo or make your own clay hair mask to cleanse your scalp of accumulated dead cells and allow it to breathe. You don’t need to do this often, but if you have frequently used gels, sprays, dry shampoos, coloring sprays, and the like, it’s advisable to detox your scalp occasionally, no more than once a week. The clay mask draws out accumulated particles from hair care products that hinder regeneration.

Green Clay Hair Mask:

Mix green clay powder with water to obtain a soft spreadable mixture, and add 10 drops of castor oil. Massage into your scalp to improve circulation, then evenly apply it down to the ends of your hair. Leave it on for about twenty minutes.

For additional hydration, you can add a tablespoon of melted coconut oil to the mask.

If you want to soothe your scalp during the summer months, use chamomile tea instead of water; it will also have antifungal and antibacterial effects.

8. Gels, Sprays, Curling Irons, Straighteners

Put away your styling products and tools for a while; you don’t need to use them.

9. Hair Ties

Tight hairstyles and daily styles that involve pulling hair back in the same place are not good even in regular cases because hair begins to thin in those spots. Tight ponytails encourage thinning at the crown and create receding hairlines. If you consult hairstylists, they will recommend styles that do not require tying and can be “wearable” without any extras.

10. Autumn

=> Keep in mind that hair sheds more in the fall, so combined with the postpartum period, hair loss may be intensified and add to your worries.

For excessive hair loss in patches or if the scalp is red and itchy, you should consult a dermatologist!

By applying some of the above guidelines, you will alleviate the symptoms of hair loss and accelerate the growth of new hair.

Remember not to overdo anything to avoid irritating your scalp. As we mentioned, even if you don’t apply any of the above, hair loss will decrease over time.
