ZZ plants grow faster

How to make ZZ plants grow faster and what can you do to grow new-young stems?

You already have it in your home or you might recently buy a plant that is believed to bring happiness and money – Yes. It is the plant – Zamioculcass zamiifolia – better known as the ZZ plant. Of course, you water it and nurture it the way you’ve been told in the flower shop. But just maybe, as time passes, you don’t notice any progress at all. In that case, try applying our EASY DAILY tricks.

Firstly, it would not be bad to list a few FAQ-s and important things to make sure that everything else you do does not interfere with the plant’s further development.

Do ZZ-plants like darkness?

Like all plants, ZZ plants does not like darkness (because all plants in the presence of sunlight create starch necessary for their further development), but it tolerates office conditions and rooms without a natural light source. If it is not placed near the window, it will progress very slowly or will not progress at all, but on the other hand, it will not die either. It can easily happen that it has the same look for years, almost as if it is made of plastic.

Do you need to take care of the plant daily?

zamija odrzavanje

No. ZZ plants are not overly demanding in terms of maintenance and are not sensitive if you neglect them for a while. Even when you are on vacation, they will „wait“ until you return (even up to a month and a half), so no one has to water them for you – pretty practical. Of course, if you completely neglect them and forget to water them for a few months, then it will start to wither like all other plants do.

So, if you skip watering them, they won’t complain much, but they definitely don’t like cold places, so don’t leave them in a room where there is no heating in the winter.

Water them at least twice a month if they are in a warm place or when it is warm in the house (during the summer, for example). Watering too often leads to root rot, and if you leave them in a cold room or in cold air, a mossy bud will form on the surface of the earth.

In case you have watered it too often, the only thing you can do rather then transplanting the ZZ plant is to move it to a warmer place with a light source so that the soil dries as quickly as possible.

Can you recover the plant if ...?

The stems at the top have brownish parts – Yes. It needs light.

The tops of the young stem are dry (brownish in color) – you will not be able to recover that stem, but you can cut the top and see if the rest will continue to dry. If the problem is in the stem itself, then it is best to cut off the entire stem not to endanger others and deprive them of food.

The leaves dry out or start to wither – It needs water. You will probably not be able to recover the dried stems, so it is better to cut them so that they do not take away nutrients from other stems. You may be able to recover semi-wilted stems by watering the plant profusely and leaving it in a warm place.

The stems of ZZ plant are crooked – put a support on it (a plastic lattice or a stick and tie it to it) After a certain amount of time they will straighten out and then you will be able to remove the “aid”.

What if the plant has had an unchanged appearance for a couple of years and no young stems have appeared?

 – Water it a little more often or as soon as you notice that the soil is completely dry.

 – “Feed the plant with new soil if the soil is” old “. The amount of new soil depends on how much space you have in the pot.

 – Dried stems are best cut.

 – If the pot is small, you should transfer it to a new one, and if the pot is too big or if you have recently transplanted it, then you should wait about a year for the plant to adapt to the new conditions.

 – Clean and spray the leaves from time to time.

And now - "EASY DAILY" TRICKS on how to make ZZ plant progress faster

grow new-young stems

If you want that your ZZ plants grow faster, follow these steps:

 – If it is winter, move it closer to the heat source (radiators) and if it is summer, move it to a place where the sun’s rays fall indirectly.

 – Water it more often but in less quantities. As soon as you notice that the soil is dry, add a little water.

 – Do not place them where they will be exposed to direct sunlight, but you can place them near a window facing east, west and north. If the window is facing south, then it would be best to blur such glass (ornament glass, or DIY – stick transparent foil on the glass, which you can easily remove later).

 – Insert the feed rods or the appropriate liquid.

Transfer it to a place where there is a lot of heat, but not exposed to direct sunlight, and water it more often.

ZZ plant near window

1. It is first necessary to follow all the steps written above so that the growing stems are healthy and thicker. Thin stems usually do not grow high, so it is necessary for the plant to be healthy and nourished.

2. The stems are higher the higher the light source is. For example, if you lower the pot to a specific level so that only the tops are leveled with the glass from the window, then the stems will tend to be as high as possible in order to make contact with light.

Take care of your ZZ plant,  as you never know if it contributed to your current financial prosperity and happiness 🙂
