In the list of favorite home-made desserts from Serbia, home-made apple pie with cinnamon would certainly be highly positioned – juicy and always fresh, with a specific sour-sweet taste. Additionally if you add a scoop of vanilla ice cream over it, you will get a perfect little desert.
With the aim of reaching the reputation of this well-known dessert, today we present a recipe for plum crumble – maybe you haven’t tried it yet, but it is undoubtedly one more irresistible dessert that will make your head spin (but not from a high dose of sugar, but from the magic of its taste).
It’s relatively quick and easy to make, so you should have no problem making it whenever you are in a need for something sweet.
Enough of talking, let’s move on to steps how to make it!
Known as the Serbian national fruit – plums are a small treasure trove of vitamins and minerals, so nutritionists rank them in the top 5 types of fruit with the strongest antioxidant effect.
They are most often used to make juices, alcoholic beverages such as “rakija“, marmalade and jams, but also the pie that is the subject of today’s post.
Plums are rich in vitamin C, which can improve your immune system and protect you from colds and viruses.
The following ingredients are required for the fruit mixture:
900g of unpeeled plums
2 teaspoons cinnamon
25g butter
half a glass of water
Juice of half a lemon
80g of sugar
Cook the ingredients in a stock pot at a moderately high temperature until the plums soften (about ten minutes).
To prepare the dough you will need:
120g butter
130g of flour
80g of sugar
1 vanilla sugar
Combine all the ingredients to make a dough, and then “crumble” it – divide it into pieces. A little trick – to make the dessert even tastier, put the dough in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool. If you don’t have time, this step can be skipped, the pie will be delicious anyway.
Three steps preparation:
1. Arrange the fruit mixture evenly on a baking sheet, then spread the pieces of dough evenly.
2. Bake in the oven at 200°C for about 30 minutes. In the middle of baking, it is necessary to mix the dessert with a spoon, because during baking a crust will be created – that will not allow the dessert to be baked evenly. With this mixing, you will also get the recognizable visual appearance of the dessert – see the pictures.
3. For a more complete taste, serve the dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream over it.
